The characteristics of a rich and turbulent history, built on a centuries-old journey that was marked by the tenacious resistance of hard-working citizens against conquerors, remain preserved to this day and represent a first-class value of cultural heritage.
Besides the old town of Sokolac, possessing its protected religious buildings, we also have the Gothic church of St. Vid, dating from the beginning of the 14th century, and the late Romanesque church of St. Fabian and Sebastian, still used periodically.
There is also the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, with its origins from the beginning of the 18th century, preserving a valuable fragment of a stone table possessing Glagolitic inscription from the early 16th century.
The list of valuable cultural goods also includes religious buildings in Križpolje, Lipice and Stajnica.
The amazing heritage value is also expressed in the rich collection of national treasures, with over 900 exhibits, that silently testify to the lifestyle and customs of our ancestors.
